IT'S MONDAY AGAIN

Early morning picking today as the weather heats up, lots of zucchini and cucumber, the last of the beans and some yummy tomatoes.

At this point in our lives I have had to make compromises, my aim for 2017 was to cut back significantly on waste particularly single use plastic.  Of course I am constantly thinking about this when I purchase anything but circumstances have changed in our little home and our usually strict budget has now become a lot stricter.

As I am the main accounts manager and shopping queen I now have to look at things a little differently.  For instance, today I needed some fresh produce for lunch and some cooking, there was some organic loose leaf lettuce mix going out for half price, bargain! except that it was wrapped in plastic.  I had to make a decision and I chose to buy it.  There are other things that I would normally not buy due to plastics but I now may have to if they are a lot cheaper than the plastic free variety.

My lunch today was a salad using organic lettuce mix (half price), spring onions (in season and on sale), home grown cucumber and tomatoes, a small amount of feta (on sale and I will use it 3 different meals), a drizzle of olive oil and salt and pepper.

We all have to make decisions, some more important than others, I'm not going back on my ideals but may just have to compromise here and there.  I intend on growing a lot more produce all year round to cut back on waste and of course keep up my cooking from scratch so that of course cuts down on a lot of waste.  If we all do a little bit, then we are making a difference.

For dinner tonight I thought I would use up some eggs from my girls and a couple of our zucchini. For the meat eaters in our home, curried sausages with rice and for me, zucchini slice.

THIS LAST WEEK.....

We have been away for cricket once again this time for Country Cup U14's in Adelaide.  I'm so happy to be home for a few days before we head off early in the morning once again for cricket.

While in Adelaide we went to the 20/20 big bash, we were in the nose bleeds section of the southern stand but it was pretty cool to watch the game.

Sophie ate the first apricot of the season from our tree.

While cutting back the herb garden this morning, I looked up to see this wonderful creature.

We gave Heidi a bath today, she really doesn't like them, poor girl.

Last night I finished my 2014 title page for Project Life.  I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Enough from me, I have to finish cooking muffins and other goodies for cricket tomorrow.  Thanks for visiting.

WERE HAS THE WEEK GONE?

It's starting to get crazy around here, 2 birthday parties to organise, a year 7 graduation and dance concerts to prepare for, not to mention working 2 jobs, keeping everything running smoothly at home, a commission quilt to finish and 3 huge quilts to bind as paid work.

So, what do I do with my spare time?
Bake yummy Raspberry Jam Drops from my new favourite cookbook, the Country Womens Association of NSW book.

Planting nasturtiums around my raised vegetable beds.

and finishing quilting a quilt to be sent to the other side of the world, hopefully my Christmas.

Look what turned up in my mail box today.

This wall hanging will compliment the smaller art canvases I am making for our lounge.

and Willow Beauty will be made for our bedroom, aren't the fabrics just gorgeous.

So that's my week so far, time to get back out in the garden while the weather is good.

MAKING BREAD

What a fantastic way to make bread. I would recommend this book to everyone.

This loaf didn't last very long, at least I have enough dough to make another 5 in the fridge.

I'm off to my caravan for some scrapping time.
