SCRAPPY MUG RUG No. ummmm don't remember

ALICE DOES YOGA

I adore this Munki Munki print and wanted to use it for something a little quirky. So Alice in Wonderland is all grown up and practicing yoga. I embroidered the words on, then free motion stitched flowers all over the piece.

I'm definately keeping this one.

RE-ARRANGING AGAIN

BEFORE

AFTER

With my on-going quest to find the perfect storage for my fabrics I came across the idea of using mini bolts for my fabrics that are over 1/2 yard in length.

So after a day of cutting sheets of chipboard down to 6" x 11 1/2" rectangles (144 so far) I have been busy winding and pinning fabric to them.

The baskets are full of fat quarters and bigger pieces that don't quite belong in the scrap basket.

I am sooooo on a fabric diet!!!!!!

MORE PLAYING AROUND

Fun, fun, fun.
The top stamp is a football jumper that Lachie draw of his favourite player's number, Lance "Buddy" Franklin of Hawthorn.
The bottom stamp is a drawing that Sophie made me, my first attempt of this one didn't work out as the lines were too thin, so I had to go over them with a thicker marker.

BELATED BIRTHDAY PRESSIE HAS ARRIVED

My Teresa Collins Stampmaker made it's way to our little home today. I was so excited by all the things I could do with it that I didn't know where to start. So after reading through the cd about 3 times, I thought it was time to make my first stamp.
I started very simple with a text stamp to go onto swing tags for my quilts.

One thing that was bothering me about the stampmaker was whether the images would be deep enough (I've bought some polymer stamps before that were way to shallow and you can't get a clear image), I needn't have worried they are deep and stamp beautifully.

There are so many ideas floating around my head atm, but for now I have to pick the kids up from school so they will have to wait.

This is my kitchen for now, I guess I will have to clean up before dinner.

TODAY...

Oh boy I'm all over the place with projects. I have to fit in making the boys quilts whenever I can because they are older and stay up later and the quilts are a secret.

Today the boys went to the local A grade footy grand final, West were in it and we won!!!! The A graders haven't won a grand final since 1971. There'll be a lot of partying tonight.

Anyway, that gave me a couple of hours to start Dan's quilt, here's the centre panel. I'm winging it as usual but I'm liking it so far.

Next up, I cut up a heap of squares for Sophie's quilt. Tonight I'll be sewing them together while she is at a sleepover.

Then I cut up a heap of 12 1/2" squares from vintage sheets, can't wait to use and swap these.

A SNEAK AT SOPHIE'S CHRISTMAS QUILT

Sophie has had the same quilt on her bed since she was old enough to go into a bed. The quilt was made my mother but now I think it's time for something a little more grown up. As you would have read in previous posts, I'm making the boys both a quilt for Christmas and of course I can't do that and not make her one. I've had these fabrics for a while and always intended on making Sophie a quilt from them.

So, 3 rather large quilts to be made in secret before Christmas (and the rest of the stuff I'm trying to get done also) Easy!!!
At least I've designed them all, that's something I guess.

LOOK WHAT CAME IN THE POST

it arrived yesterday just in time for my birthday.
Alexia from Nashville made me this gorgeous quilt for our swap in DQS9. I am so lucky, she stalked very well as I love everything about it, the design, fabrics, colours and the quilting.

Here are the extra goodies Alexia put in with the quilt, I'm so spoilt.

SCRAPPY MUG RUG 2

I wonder how many more of these I will make?

WELL IT WAS GOING TO BE A QUILT

My quilt as you go quilt took a different turn today. You see I am always changing stuff around and trying to make areas in our small home a little more useful and multi functional.
This is a before picture of an area in our kitchen, the drop down desk held sewing supplies and tools.

I had a vision of this area being a little more useful, so I bought 2 padded storage boxes for a bargain price I might add, placed them at right angles for the kids to sit on to watch the little tv we have out there or to watch and chat to me while I'm cooking (or cleaning). I will also use this area to sit on and have a cuppa or sketch while looking out into the back yard.
The storage will be used to put all of my sewing supplies in.

Anyway..... Back to the quilt, it had now become big cushion covers. Here is one completed cushion, nice and big to put behind so we are not leaning against the glass or the wall.

It's turning into a cute little nook, one day I hope to replace the curtains also, but they will do for now.

A START TO CHRISTMAS PRESSIES

I found this fabric in the fabric store where I teach and instantly knew the boys would be getting new quilts for their beds with it. I love it and I know they will too.

SCRAPPY MUG RUG SWAP

I joined up over at Flickr to make one of these scrappy mug rug thingymawhatsits. Really it is a oversized coaster to hold your cup of tea and a snack to go with it. I think they are a cute idea and so quick to whip up.

I need to make 2 of them to send out (long story) so last night I made the first.

This mug rug is fully reversible, the front was made by weaving the two fabrics then quilting over the top. Something I have wanted to try for a while.

The back is very simply pieced but I wanted to be able to use both sides for a different look depending on the mood.

This next photo is of my free swatch I received from Spoonflower with my artwork on it. I'm very happy with the colouring and fabric.

FINALLY!!!!

A place where I can keep up my design wall.

I used to hang it over our sliding doors in the kitchen and take it down, roll it up when I had finished sewing. Not anymore, A brilliant idea came to me at around 4am. You see, we have had a wooden door leaning against our passage wall for around 5 years. Why you may ask? Because we've been to lazy to get it hung as our laundry door.
The door is now holding up the design wall. Win win, door is finally out of the passage, no more stubbed toes and I get to have a permanent design wall. YAY!!!

My scrappy quilt as you go is coming along slowly, I am always amazed at how all of the totally different fabrics, prints & hues all seem to just look right in one of these quilts.
I now get to look at what is on my design wall from the kitchen where I spend most of my time, so much better than a blank wall.
Darren has finally conceded that our dining room, come sewing room is now in fact a sewing room, come dining room.

BOOK WEEK

On Friday it was the school's Book Week Parade.

The kids had a ball. Sophie's Alice dress turned out beautifully, she loves it and wants to have lots of tea parties in the fairy garden while wearing it.

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN.....

When the scrap basket is overflowing and there's quilts to be made with those scraps.

I love scrap quilts, they make me smile with all of the different fabric combinations and the memories of what the fabrics were used for in other projects.

With these scraps I will be making a "quilt as you go" log cabin. One of my favorite quilts to show off scraps.

Here's my pile I'm starting with (there's plenty more still in the basket)

The blocks are 12" x 12". I'm not sure how big I will make this quilt, probably pretty big :)
