SOPHIE*SEWN - post No.2 for today

Sophie is 6, we gave her a sewing machine last Christmas and she has had fun making bags, christmas stockings and other bits and pieces with it.

Last week she said she wanted to make a quilt, she picked the fabrics, placed them where she wanted them, I cut the fabric and she sewed them all together.

I'm so proud of what she achieved today, she kept telling everyone "I'm a fast sewer and quilter just like mummy".

NEW CUSHIONS FOR OUR NEWISH LOUNGE

I received a package last week with fabrics from Bari J Ackerman's Art Journal in it. I ordered these fabrics for the purpose of making cushions for our lounge.
I love the way they turned out, they bring a bit of spring into our cold dreary winter.

A REST FROM BLOGGING

I haven't been around a lot lately, I'm having a bit of a rest from blogging. There's not a lot to tell, we're all healthy and happy and going about our lives, I'm just trying to fit too much into one day.
I will be back soon.

THIS IS WHAT I LOVE THE MOST ABOUT QUILTING

A couple of years ago I completed Daniel's quilt made with his baby clothes and some other fabrics reflective of what I loved at the time.
For those that haven't seen this quilt, here are a couple of photos.

I made this quilt to be tucked away and hopefully brought out if Daniel is a father one day. I love the hand quilting on it and every stitch was stitched with love.

This is my favourite kind of quilting, taking something personal and turning it into something usable and reflective of my love for that said person.

Today I made up Lachlan's quilt, once again with fabrics cut from the baby clothes he wore. I know some people out there probably think I'm mad to cut up these clothes but I knew from the beginning what I wanted to do and collected these clothes for that purpose. I have Sophie's newborn clothes tucked away for when the inspiration strikes one day. Making these quilts is not for the faint-hearted, the fabrics are incredibly stretchy and are cause for quite a few headaches but so worth it in the end.

You will see in the photo below that some of the seams do not match up, no matter how hard you try, the fabrics will still stretch in some cases. I chose my favourite Amy Butler fabric, Lotus Dots to offset the baby clothes then a grey homespun for the thin border and Shade Garden by Michelle Engel Bencsko for the large border and backing.

I have started hand quilting this quilt and will take my time finishing as I enjoy every stitch.

MESSY STUFF

Remember the scrap journal a couple of posts down? I started messing up some of the pages today.

I GIVE IN......

No matter how hard I try, I just can't stop buying new gorgeous prints that come out. Even with the dollar the way it is, I can still buy fabrics with postage from USA for less than half the price of fabrics here.
I have been buying up as our tax refund should be back in the next couple of weeks, but this really will be stopping now as one of my jobs will be ending. In the last 2 months, I've gone from 4 part-time jobs to 2.
Here is what I tried to resist and failed. (sorry about the folds but there was no time to iron).

3 POSTS IN 1 DAY!!!!!

I started this album today made from scraps of paper and an old book cover. The pages have been glued together back to back. I can't wait to fill them.

Look what arrived today. Flea Market Fancy can I ever get enough of you?

I have been after these 3 prints for what seems like forever. I feel so happy.
Sophie has decided to help pimp my van.

Now to convince the boys to do the same.

REMEMBER THIS?

The pimping of my van.

Well I got to do some more pimping last night, ahhhh so much fun.

This sign is over my van door.
I'm not sure I am comfortable with the word artist when applying it to myself but what was I going to say, "wannabe @ work" or "crafter @ work". No, I'll stick with artist.

These next photos are works of art from the most amazing, talented group of friends I know. They are my online g-inspired friends.
I treasure their work, they are so inspiring.
