SWEET LITTLE BIRDIE

This 8"x10" canvas was made today with me trying my hand at a bit of wire work. I love the look of bird cages but wanted something rustic and not perfect so I set about making my own. When finished with the wire creating I coated the cage with antique gold paint then added patina over the top to give an antique finish.
The background is done with acrylics with napkins added on top.

HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!

Well there's not as much creating going on this week as I would have liked, but I did manage to finish off a project or two. Besides moping about and feeling a little lost, it's been 40+ all week and I am sooooo over it. Poor Darren is on holidays so he has copped the brunt of it. No wonder he had gone fishing so much!!!
Today I kept the kids home from school, they are exhausted from the heat and we haven't been sleeping all that well, so the little pool came out and look who joined in on the fun, she must have been hot as she can't stand it when I give her a bath!
I have finished the wall-hanging

and some of the pages in a holiday album except the journaling, I want the kids imput with the journaling as I wasn't there on this holiday.

Let me draw your attention to the right side of the next page. Lachie has this uncanny knack of finding rocks that look like other things. Meet "bum rock" he has supplied the kids with truck loads of giggles and fits of laughter.

She had a great first day, I'm so glad!!! I did not fair so well I'm afraid. I moped about all day not really achieving much. Someone made a comment to me about Sophie not being my baby anymore, I beg to differ, all three are still and always will be my babies.
I started the morning by waking at 6am to make them pancakes for their first day, they went down really well and I'm guessing they want more tomorrow.

THIS LITTLE GIRL

is starting school tomorrow. I'm not feeling very good about this, she is my little baby and I am not ready. I worry about her, she has never been in a class situation before as I taught her kindy at home, I don't know how I will feel without that constant chatter and playing going on around me. I'm getting teary just typing this.

On the positives, she is soooo excited and can't wait to meet and play with lots of kids, she wants to learn so much more than I can teach her (as I just don't know the correct way of teaching her). I know she will be happy at school.

I just can't believe it's tomorrow, I've been in denial and have just pushed any thoughts of her going aside.

I will be creating this afternoon, my thoughts need to be elsewhere so I will be back.

SNEAK PEEKS AND FAV PHOTOS

Here is something fun I'm playing with, it's nowhere near finished but at least is cut out. Hopefully it will look like you are looking out of a window when it is finished.

Next up is a peek at an album I'm putting together for the kids about their holiday they had in 2008 with their grandparents to The Grampians.

I decided when I joined in with 52Q that I would also finish Em's challenge from 2007. Every week I typed out Em's prompt with the intention of doing it, but before I knew it, I was so far behind that I just didn't think I could catch up. This is the year and here is the first layout. The prompt is "something you are proud of". I am using a deck of oversized cards that I bought for this project way back in 2007, I even painted some backgrounds back then also. The leaves behind the bird are a handmade lino stamp stamped with paint.

Now for some cute photos....

Our Heidi baby is growing so fast, she has been with us for 5 weeks and has doubled in size and weight. We took her to my parents today to have a little holiday with them as we are going on our annual seaside holiday on Tuesday for a week.
So I hope everyne has a lovely week, I know we will and I'll be back next Sunday with some pics.

WHAT'S GOING ON?

Two posts in one day!

I just made the cover to my Blue Bazaar mixed media art journal, the year long project that I spoke about in a previous post. I just thought I would share the new look to my vintage book.

BATIK MAGIC

This is my first attempt at using circular templates. I love the look especially with the batiks.
My good friend Nancy who goes to Bali a couple of times a year brought me back these gorgeous batiks. I have been sitting on them trying to think up a pattern to use to really show them off. I made this pattern up myself and there really isn't any rhyme or reason to it I just placed the blocks where I thought they looked good.

Thanks for looking.

I made this canvas for a dear friend for her birthday.
I can show it now as I know she has received it :)

The dresses have a beeswax coating on them, it gives the work such a beautiful finish.

52Q - week 1

This week's question is 'what are your wishes for 2009?'

I chose to think of things closer to home than world peace etc (which of course I do want).

thanks for looking xxx

FIRST CHALLENGE DONE

Here is my Blue Bazaar challenge for this month.
We had to create an abstract background then draw a focal image on the page.

My background was made from brayered acrylic paints and glimmermist.

I will be using a vintage 1907 book for my art journal for this challenge.

Okay so I'm taking on just one more year long project, I couldn't go past this one of Em's.

It will be quick and easy to do, I need that atm. For those of you who just can't seem to find that 25th hour in the day, this one might just be for you.

Oh, and real soon I will change my banner.

So many things to do!!!!!

A NEW YEAR A NEW BEGINNING....

to start some new projects (and finish off some well overdue ones)

I've decided to take on two, year long projects with hopefully no stress involved. The first is my fab blogger friend Julie's project

this is going to be a lot of fun and right up my alley with no rules except to create something each week relating to that week, it could be a scrapbook page, mini quilt, ATC, poem, canvas really anything you can think of. I love this idea because like Julie, I do a lot of different things and like to try new ideas all of the time.

The second project I'm taking on is through Blue Bazaar
and it's a mixed media monthly art journal project with each month trying out a new technique or two.

Both are very exciting and achievable.

Now to the not so finished projects from 2008. Firstly to finish those last 3 pages of my 25 days of December album and the cj pages that I have put off over and over again. I'm feeling a bit inadequate when it comes to this cj, the ones I have received are so good and I'm not sure that I'm up to that standard.

So that's the plan, I'll just go with the flow and see what happens I guess.

ATC's To Share

I was in the mood to create tonight but only something little, so here's what I came up with.

For the background I used vintage music paper covered with napkins.

I did a faux bleach stamped background for this ATC.
