This is our Easter tree. Over the next few years it will look fuller but as this is it's first year with us, I need to build up our collection of handpainted wooden eggs. The kids and I had fun yesterday, chopping off a limb from one of our trees, then trying to work out how to hang our pretty little eggs. We came up with black wire on some and ribbon on others, I think they look pretty good hung that way. The idea came from this blog My favorite wooden eggs are the bird ones, so pretty.
The first bag is a messenger style bag and the second and third are tied shoulder bags. All bags are finished with a vintage button. Thanks for looking.
Another big cooking weekend here at the Brown's. First up was the picking of the tomatoes, zucchini, squash, asparagus and carrots then it was time to do some work. Saturday was a full day of making tomato sauce. I tried a new recipe this year, one of Jamie Oliver's and it's the best sauce to date I think. You'll notice some of the jars have chilli written on them, they are definately not for me!!!! They are for Darren's benefit, I think he's crazy. Today was a bit easier, a vegetable quiche with all the yummy homegrown veges, apricot chicken in the slow cooker and cup-cakes for the kids for school. So no crafting happened here this weekend I'm afraid, but tomorrow if it's slow at work I will be putting together some fleamarket bags, hopefully I can show you tomorrow night.
This is the quilt I spoke about a few posts back that I found while looking for the Amy Butler quilt, which I might add is still missing!!! I made this quilt a few years back and now remember why it was neatly tucked away to finish at another time, it is huge and couldn't possibly fit through my little Janome. Now, with working at the qulit shop I have gotten to know a wonderful professional quilter, Julie Colbey. She does the most amazing work so I packed this baby off to her last week to work her magic. The results speak for themselves I think.
While I was on Flickr the other night my friend Manda mentioned an incident that happened at her school that day. This triggered a horrible memory of a day when Lachie was 3. I journaled about this day when it happened but put it aside to do something with it at another time. the journaling reads:
What happened this day was the most frightening, panic filled time I ever experienced with you. To turn around at the end of a normal school day and not be able to find you sent a wave of anxiety through me. I quickly scanned the playground and looked up and down the classrooms, you weren't there. I started asking parents if they had seen you while trying to keep the panic out of my voice. One parent casually said "is that your son playing in the carpark?" WHAT THE...... Did no-one think to grab you? Playing amongst cars at the end of school, what the hell were these ADULTS thinking? I raced to the carpark blinded by tears and fear, I was screaming your name, people probably thought I was loony, I didn't care. I grabbed you and hugged you and cried and cried. How did I let this happen? What if someone backed out and didn't see you? In a school of 1500 students, that was one busy road and carpark. I was so angry at myself and the parents that watched you run in and out of the cars and did nothing.
I was reading Ngaire's blog and having a laugh at the men from her youth and thought I'd share a few of the heart-throbs from my teens. Here goes nothing, feel free to point and laugh. I'm sure there are many more but it's getting late and my brain just won't work tonight and I do have Twilight to finish reading.... ahhh Andre Agassi or affectionately known by me as Drey, Drey.
The orginal Battlestar Galactica, Apollo and Starbuck. I watched that show religiously for 2 very good reasons.....
George, George, George how was I to know you were gay? I had my room plastered with George pictures even on the ceiling, sigh...
mmmmmm and still mmmmmm, Chachi aka Scott Baio
Be still my beating heart. The one, the only David Cassidy.
In my mid-teens and my heavy metal stage which for those who don't know me very well led me to be the adoring groupie and then girlfriend of my now darling husband, I had a crush on soooo many big haired guys in bands just like this one. Whitesnakes, David Coverdale. Old enough to be my father, but ohhhh so gorgeous. I will leave you with a bit of David, sigh....
One quilt made from Amy Butler fabrics!!!! I have been searching on and off for about a week now for this unfinished quilt, hmmmmm, my house is not very big and I stash fabrics and unfinished quilts in cupboards and the linen press but I know where they all are when I want them. Not this one, but I will keep searching it must be around somewhere.
Anyway, while I have been searching I came across a finished quilt top that I had forgotten about, I think I made it about 3 years ago as a bed topper for our bed. I got very excited about that one and as it's made of osnaburg which is very heavy, I now remember why I put it away, the arm on my machine simply wasn't big enough to quilt it. Luckily for me I now know a professional quilter who is very reasonable with her rates and it is there now getting quilted. I will show that one when it gets back.
So, I was looking again last night and I came across a heap of log cabin squares that were part of a round-robin with a small stitching group I was a part of about 4 years ago. I looked at them all together and thought "these fabrics really don't do much for me anymore". Then I decided to add linen as the sashing to lighten it up a little and now I'm really liking it. I love working with linen, it's not the easiest fabric to work with, but I love the look and texture. What do you think?
This album is going to be filled with photos and results from Daniel's and Lachie's 2008/2009 cricket season. I put on quite a bit of paint, stamping and glimmer mists on the background of the album, they just don't show up very well in the photo.
The boys love it and can't wait for me to finish the pages.
Thank you for your comments on my last post about Daniel, all is well at the moment and hopefully we can keep the peace for a little while.
Here are some photo's of what the kids got up to this week...... Poor Heidi was very sick this week, she started throwing up on Wednesday night, but looked a little better Thursday morning. After I came home from work at lunch time, she looked really bad and I was worried she had eaten something bad so I raced her down to the vet. They checked her out and decided that she had gastro. She didn't even care when they put the thermometer up her butt or the injection she got to stop throwing up. She's been on antibiotics all week and is back to her mischievious self. We all went out to the cricket club for tea for Daniel to receive his medal for playing in the future champions under 12's game last month. He's pretty proud of this medal. Lachie started T-Ball and of course loves it. He's a real little sportsman this one.
After spending what seems like countless hours arguing with darling son number 1 over his attitude towards me, I decided that today was all about me. I dropped the kids at school and went straight to my caravan to create this album. I spent all day out there, I didn't worry about housework or darling son number 1 for hours and it felt great. Mind you, after picking up the kids from school it all started again and now I feel very sad and ashamed at yelling at him to try and snap him out of it and all I want to do is cry. But, enough about me, here is the g-inspired album that gave so much pleasure to create today. The back of the album. The spine. The signatures, there are 2 signatures either side with 16 page openings to a signature.
