Look what I bought today.

I love ladders, I have a few scattered about the house, but this one has little shelves on it, perfect to house some of my quilts don't you think?

A WEE BIT OF COOKING

We have Pancake Sunday in our house, a tradition that started a couple of years ago. Last month I happened to be watching Nigella on tv and she had a fantastic pancake recipe, the best I've ever tasted in fact, so I thought I would share. The best tip she gave was to make up the pre-mix of dry ingredients and put them in a big jar all ready for the next Pancake Sunday.

Nigella's recipe....
600gms plain flour
50gm baking powder
2 tablespoons bi-carb soda
1 teaspoon salt
50gm caster sugar

Add to jar, put on lid and shake. There you have it all ready to go.

When you are ready to make the pancakes....
1 cup of dry mixture
1 egg
1 cup of milk

whisk lightly then add 1 tablespoon of melted butter to the mixture, whisk again.
The butter is so you don't have to add anything to the pan, this is enough to stop the sticking.
It's as easy as that and the dry mixture only takes a couple of minutes to throw together.
Thank you Nigella!

next I made sausage rolls for the kids for school. I've been making the same recipe for these for years and the kids love them. They freeze really well, always a must in this house.

2 batches of cupcakes came next, once again for school time. These freeze really well also and I just ice them as I want them.

and last but not least I'm cooking silverside/corned beef for tea in the slow cooker. It looks a little gross in this photo to me, only because I don't eat meat. But basically I put water, half a cup of vinegar, an onion and some bay leaves in the pot, add the meat and cook for about 6 hours.

We also raided the vege patch today and came away with carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, zucchini, squash and asparagus. Yummo!!!!!

SHE'S GROWING UP

She's such a poser!!!! Heidi is 17 weeks old now and still as cute as ever.

Look Mon!!! Your gorgeous collar fits her now and we all think she looks beautiful in it.

Tonight I took myself away from the sewing machine and out to the caravan for a bit of art journaling. This is what I came up with.....

SPIDERWEB QUILT IN PROGRESS

After spending a good part of a day drawing up the pattern, I finally got to start this quilt. As I put the first block together I realized I had made a mistake but I figure if I make all the blocks the same at least the mistake will be uniform.

Have a great weekend.

SALVAGE YOUR SELVAGES

I'm feeling a little better today and woke up wanting to make a cover for my quilts journal. This journal houses pictures of quilts I've made and the details about the quilts.

*collect a heap of different selvages from fabrics, if you don't have an obscene amount of fabric like me, ask family or friends that sew to collect them for you.

*cut pieces of calico for a backing to sew the selvages on to, then starting from the bottom of the calico, add selvages one at a time and sew into place overlapping as you go.
I cut my calico to around 7" x 7".

*completed squares. I made 4 squares to fit my journal cover.

*cut your squares to sew back together in a patchwork style. I have some selvages going vertical and some horizontal.

*once sewn, cut to size then add a thin chipboard backing and sew the fabric onto the chipboard with a zigzag stitch.

*punch holes in the cover and pages then bind with wool threads.

ANOTHER AWARD

Thank you very much Julie for giving me this award. Check this talented girl out, she is so inspiring. I can't think who to pass this one onto ATM as my head is foggy and I'm just not thinking straight.

I don't have anything to show this week as I have a bad head cold and my head feels like it's going to explode. When I'm feeling better I will be back into creating I promise.
Have a great week

IT'S ALL ABOUT THIS BOY TODAY

A couple of weeks ago Daniel was picked to play in the under 12's future champions match. The boys are picked out of all the under 12's teams playing in the Sims Shield, quite an honour as these are the best in their age group.

After a very long day, Dan's team won and he is full of confidence and over the moon. Dan ended up with one wicket, he bowled and fielded really well. Unfortunately he was stumped with no runs on the board but he's okay with that as he is becoming quite a valuable little bowler.

We are so proud of him for going out and giving his all.

CROP BOOTCAMP

Lu over at Blue Bazaar has put together a crop bootcamp that anyone can join in on. It's a fantastic way to use up all of those supplies that just seem to sit around not doing much. The bootcamp consists of two online chat'n'crop sessions a week, with the the aim of producing 25 layouts when finished.

This isn't as scary as it seems as all the layouts have a sketch and a theme to follow if you wish. The sketches are by Becky Fleck from Page Maps fame.

Crop Bootcamp layout #1

Simple and quick that is the aim and this just might help me reduce my piles of photos and supplies.
Did I mention that there are incentives for finishing some of the layouts? Go and check it out here
