PRETTY SKIRTS

I know that I only have a couple of days left to finish my calandar swap, but today is such a beautiful spring day that I thought sewing Sophie some skirts was in order instead.

I found the easiest pattern ever and it is available for free download at oliver and s lazy days skirt
Sophie picked out the fabric and the skirts took about 1/2 hour each to make and cost around $4.00 each.

She now wants one for every day of the week, I really need to get this calendar deadline finished then I'll think about making more.

Go over and have a look, this pattern is incredible, I don't sew clothes and didn't have a problem following the instructions. Your precious little girl will love you for it.

ON A ROLL

More calendar pages to share (I was one busy girl today).
Theme: "One Word"
I painted the background then added torn papers and alpha stamps everywhere.

Theme: "Relics of the Past"
Torn collaged background, photo printed on card and handwritten on.

Theme: "Words"
I collaged the background with different papers, added the clock stamp and made a "skin" from the image of the dancing couple (love how this turned out, thanks Manda) I then printed the words of one of my favourite songs by Lifehouse onto a transparency and attached it by sewing.

Theme: "Zodiac"
Another collaged background, lovin' these ATM. Another "mod podged skin" for the circle and a transparency image for the centre.

On another note, Daniel had a grading on Sunday, he is now a yellow belt, I am so proud of him. I was supposed to be in this grading also but hurt my back a few weeks ago and had to pull out.

CALENDAR SWAP

I've been involved in a calendar swap this year through Blue Bazaar and of course have left it to the last minute to finish off the pages.
Here are some of them, I only have 7 left to do and ATC's for all of them and a cover all by the end of the month, EASY!!!!
Theme: "Critters".
I had a vintage children's book just waiting to be torn apart, I also added scrunched up papers, glimmermist and a bird stamp.

Theme: "Favourite Australian Place".
I made a torn collaged background with antiquing medium over the top to blend. The photo is sanded and alpha stamps stamped on.

Theme: "Favourite Holiday Destination".
Same method as above.

Theme: "Mythical Creatures".
Torn handmade paper was used for the background. The picture is a packing tape transfer. I then made a velvet embellishment by stamping with paint then heat setting it onto the velvet.

Theme: "Altered Postcards".
I Painted the background with a stencil, stamps and rub-ons were then added. I have painted on the postcard to alter it and added rub-ons.

IS IT THAT TIME AGAIN?

It was my birthday yesterday and a couple of friends wanted to see what I received as presents.

The mini iron will be used for smoothing out beeswax on my projects, I have wanted one for a while now. I finally have Grease on DVD (my video is well past it's used by date) and it even came with it's very cute little Rydell High knitted jacket. I had been eyeing off these shoes for weeks, they are so cute. Chocolates, YUMMY!!! The little fluffy toys were from the kids. They went and picked out a present each for me, Daniel gave me the frog, Lachie the dog and Sophie the bear.
I really shouldn't have gotten any presents as only 3 weeks ago I got a new stand for my boxing bag and that was pretty pricey.
Anyway I had a lovely day with my beautiful family and then last night got to play with a workshop I am taking ATM, more on that later.
Have a great rest of the weekend,

OHHH SO MUCH FUN

Mary, a friend of mine lent me her brand new toy today to play with. An embellisher machine. This little beauty is fantastic, I have wanted to try one out for ages and today I got to play.
It may look like a sewing machine but that is where the similarities end. Basically what it does is felts things together. I love dry felting but things take forever to do, with this machine though it's so quick and easy.

These pieces will be used as backgrounds for journal covers. I made some other pieces that I will cut up and use for different projects.

SOAR

So I started on my little 'collage and drawing' journey yesterday and decided to make a little book.

I found sheets of primed canvas in a store and thought I would make my little journal from that.

The background of "SOAR" is painted with watercolour paints I then added fabrics, vintage dictionary and book pages and feather and alpha stamps. The canvas was then misted with Red Russett Glitz Spritz.

I was brave and drew my bird in with black pen straight away (usually I draw with pencil and go over the top). I then coloured the bird with watercolour pencils.

I'm loving this journal already and I've only done the first page.

DOWN ANOTHER PATH

Lately I've been thinking a lot about collage. It consumes my creative thoughts in how to create with fabric and paper. I know how I want my collage pieces to look, I have pictures of my art in my head and on paper with sketches, but I just can't seem to get everything to be how I really want them to be.
I know I need to have more confidence in what I am trying to create, so I am posting a photo of what I am now getting back to, to put it out there and not be afraid of showing people.

I love to draw, I loved it in school and over the years have done little bits here and there and it's now that I really want to start using my own drawings in my collage work. I have done some portrait work years ago, but nowdays I am not looking for a realness I just want to draw people in my own happy way. (More to come on that though).

In school, I drew flowers, plants and animals, particularly birds. I've always loved birds, I'm not sure that I want to be exact with my colourings, but I want to draw birds, as simple as that.

A very good friend of mine called me a couple of days ago announcing that she is giving up work to create art. She is an amazing artist and I am so happy for her. We don't have the same style, I love mixed media, she is an acrylic artist and I wonder if she will appreciate my work as much as I appreciate hers. I am so excited for her and one day I will show her my work when I feel brave.

So I guess I've dribbled for long enough,
Have a lovely day
