SUPER EXCITED

This weekend I am doing a two day workshop with Gloria Loughman. She creates the most amazing landscape art quilts. I have her book Luminous Landscapes and it is a must for those interested in fabric painting and putting together an art quilt.

I will be learning fabric painting techniques, free machine detailing and heaps more. I cannot wait, we don't get a lot of opportunities here in Mt Gambier for world renowned artists to come and conduct workshops.

Another reason why this will be such an amazing weekend is my beautiful Mum is doing it with me. She has been creating for as long as I can remember and she makes the most gorgeous quilts, I love her colour sense, so free.

I will share my creation after this weekend. Hope you have something super exciting to do also.

TA DA

I've finished it, Daniel's quilt which I wrote about in a previous post is done!!!! I loved every minute of finishing off this precious quilt. It will be gently handwashed and put away in a place where I can pull it out at any time to look at and cuddle.

Not only have I completed Daniel's baby quilt, I also put together Sophie's quilt top. She has been constantly asking when she can snuggle with her dolly under it.

But wait, there's more. I also completed 2 layouts, I know they are simple, but this is what I was in the mood to do.

So that was my big weekend. I hope yours was a productive one.
Thanks for looking.

ON A ROLL

I felt like doing something a bit different today. Mixed media facinates me, I am in awe of so many talented people out there. While my work may not be as amazing as some, I enjoy every step of creating and get a real kick out of learning a new technique and seeing how it comes out in the end.

This journal cover is made from white cotton fabric. I painted it with acrylic and lumiere metallic paints. Vines were stamped on and fabric images fused on.

The painting technique I used was to add paint on top of a sheet of glass, then put glad wrap over it and brayer. Lift the glad wrap and place on fabric and brayer again. Keep layering different coloured paint. I also used bubble wrap with this technique.
So what are your thoughts on this?

MORE ATC'S TO SHARE

I'm trying to play catch-up with the ATC challenge on Blue Bazaar
Here are four I completed last night.

Week 9 - Autumn

Week 10 - Destination, Asia

Week 11 - Transparency
My transparency element is the mod podged tissue paper over the vintage book page. I stamped the tissue paper first using g's idea of brayering over the top of stamps and paper. Check out her site for pictures. This is a great method for stamping on flimsy papers especially with acrylic stamps, they don't stick to the papers.

Week 12 - Metal

SNEAK PEEK

This is what I have been busy working on for the last week. I started this quilt 10 years ago, then took it apart about 5 years ago as I wasn't very happy with it, put it back together and haven't touched it since. Now is the time to finally hand quilt it with love in every stitch.

Let me tell you about it.

I am extremely sentimental and find it hard to give away anything to do with my children. After my first son, Daniel, had grown out of his newborn clothes I wanted to keep them all, not just for future children, but to look at and smell whenever I wanted. This certainly was not a practical thing as we intended on having more children and our house was quite limited on space. Some people thought I was crazy but I cut up all of his precious clothes into squares and decided to make a quilt out of them. It was a hard thing to do at first, but I soon saw the benefits of being able to see all those precious pieces of fabric in one gorgeous quilt that I would one day put away in Daniel's memory box and who knows, maybe he will use this quilt for his little babies.

So here we are, I am enjoying handstitching this quilt more than any I have made. I love looking at the fabrics as I quilt and I remember my little baby from so many years ago.

I now look forward to making quilts for Lachlan and Sophie, their clothes were also cut up and put away ready for me to stitch some love into them when I was ready.

The quilting is nearly done and I will post a photo of the whole quilt when it is finished.

PLAYING AROUND WITH PHOTOSHOP

I'm not feeling that great today so I thought I would have a play with photoshop. g showed a stamp technique on her blog that looked interesting, here are a couple of photos using this technique.

I love using photoshop but have so much to learn, I'm still time challenged, so it's great to have someone show a technique, giving a grounding on how to use it, then all I have to do is fiddle around and change it to suit me.
