I'M RELAXED AND IN HOLIDAY MODE

We're back from our annual holiday. We had the best time just doing nothing really. The kids had a ball at the beach every day. I did take a small holiday journal with me but only did a couple of pages. All I felt like doing craft wise was stitching and guess what? I didn't take any with me.

So, time to get stuck into it again, loads of ideas to follow up on, I'll be starting tonight!!

I'M OFF

We leave for our annual family holiday to Robe today and I won't have internet access as we are camping. I love this precious time away, not having to be anywhere at any particular time. We will have heaps of fun and I will share when we return on Sunday. Take care and thanks for visiting my blog.

HAVING A LAZY WEEKEND

Here's a layout I did during the week. I used vintage pages torn, painted then wiped off for the background. I made paper-chain girls down the bottom (haven't made them since I was little). This one was a bit of fun.

I will be doing a simple patchwork quilt today for Sophie, she's been begging me for weeks to make her a special quilt to snuggle in. I'll post a picture when it's finished.

NEW LOOK

Hi Everyone
well I've been busy updating my blog's look. I finally worked out how to do my own banner in photoshop. I have heaps of digital elements (thousands) that I am pouring through and finding things I had forgotten I had. So, what do you think? I like the black, it shows off the photos more. There are more changes to come, I just need more of that time stuff that some people talk about having!!!
I will post some new work soon. xxx

JOURNEY OF AN ART QUILT

I've taken my first step to learn how to create a art quilt. So, what would a scrapbooker do? Make a journal to record the journey in of course. With this book "Art Quilt Workbook", you read one chapter at a time and do the exercises and homework at the end of each chapter. There are wordplay exercises and sketches of designs to do, so I thought I would make a special journal to put them and photos of finished quilts in, as well as my thoughts and ideas on the whole process.

I made the journal from scratch as I wanted art paper and watercolour papers included in it. I also wanted it to open from the top as I am left handed and there is nothing worse than always hitting the binding when you are trying to write or draw. The size of the pages are 5 1/4" x 6 3/4" with the covers being slightly larger. The covers are made from chipboard that I painted a base coat on in turquoise, then used a sea sponge to sponge on different colours over the top. When dry, I added the title in chipboard and velvet letters.
I used my fantastic bind-it-all machine to put it all together. I would recommend one of these beauties to anyone who would listen, you can bind just about anything together, I got mine from here
So all I have to do now is find some of that spare time stuff that some people seem to have LOL and I will be well on my way to creating my very own art quilts.

Layouts To Share and Inspirational Books!!!

Well Hello and I know I'm a bit late in saying it but HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I thought I would share some layouts that I have been doing, so here goes.

This is an album I made from chipboard to fit 6" x 12" layouts. To make the sleeves to put layouts in, I cut down 12" x 12" sleeves then sewed the bottom up. I decorated the cover in Love, Elsie papers and fabric paper then used an outside of a chipboard shape for a frame, painted then attached it.

And now for my first bit of inspiration for 2008.

These two books have been long awaited and desired. I am soooo very excited to have them. The one on the left will not only help me in designing my own art quilts, but the information on design will be invaluable for my scrapbooking. The book on the right is learning how to construct a landscape art quilt something I have been wanting to try for a very long time.

I am going to curl up in bed now and continue reading these amazing books and I will share projects that I have completed in the Art Quilt Workbook as I learn new techniques. Stay Posted.......
